Who
are durham21?
Oh
dear. What has happened here then? No, it's not a police identification
parade you cheeky sod. The below, the chosen few, have been plucked
from obscurity to steer the shaky boat that is d21 through the 2007/8
season. Although you wouldn't particularly want to see some of these
characters next to you in the trenches, you do want them in front
of their computer screens conveying their thoughful opinions and
teachings to the benighted student population. Scroll down even
further and you will find details of our current
vacancies - we're always looking for new members to join our
team of student volunteers who manage and maintain all aspects of
the site, so do get in contact if you're interested in getting involved.

WRITERS
A website is nothing without content. We need
a dedicated crew of journalists willing to chase up the latest breaking
news, interview and pressurize prominent people in our community,
write a preview of the newest theatre productions and concerts. Whether
you want to put a Durham slant on an international issue or just write
a satirical column, durham21 is the place for you. You don't need
any previous experience or knowledge of computers to write for us,
just ideas and enthusiasm. There's a section for all styles of writing,
investigative journalism, comments and opinion, going out, staying
in or features. If you don't think your article fits in any of those
categories, we'll make a category for you - it's that simple. Just
contact any of our section editors from the list above. We pride ourselves
on being friendly and approachable so don't think you won't be appreciated!
The editorial team are all both writers and students like you so we
understand the pressure of exams, deadlines and hard partying. As
far as we’re concerned you are freelance journalists and you
can contribute as much or as you like. We don't mind if you want to
take a break from writing for a few weeks and we know what it feels
like to be an unloved journalist. We think you're bloody great.

MARKETING
We are looking for creative, out-going and highly personable students
who want to get involved in the marketing and advertising of an overwhelmingly
successful student website. We need people who are willing to take
responsibility and use their own initiative in the marketing of durham21
within both their own college and the wider community. The successful
candidates will be in charge of co-ordinating advertising campaigns,
marketing drives and giving feedback in weekly meetings. As a member
of the team you will be vital, and we will listen and act on your
suggestions. It's not just sellsellsell - it's about strategising
and sweet talking with a dash of blagging – and since we donate
all our profits to charity it’s definitely worthwhile.

PROGRAMMERS
AND WEBDESIGNERS
The
techie side of durham21 is the backbone of our website. As well as working
on day to day problem solving, you'll have the opportunity to try new
ideas and concepts in an environment where creativity is actively encouraged.
The tech team is the foundation stone of our website - would you like
to be part of such an important and interesting strongest link? In return
for all your efforts we do not offer you money (we donate all our profits
to local charities), but we offer you the chance to utilise your skills
in a fast-paced environment and for you to build up visibility for your
work.

PHOTOGRAPHERS
We are looking for talented photographers who would like
to contribute their work to a new media environment. Contributions
could either be tied in with news stories or run independently as
a separate section. We can equip you with a digital camera or teach
you the skills required to transfer your images to digital format.
No previous knowledge of digital imaging is required. In return for
all your efforts we do not offer you money, but we offer you the chance
to utilise your skills in a fast-paced environment and for you to
build up visibility for your work.

CARTOONISTS
AND ILLUSTRATORS
We are looking for talented cartoonists who would like to contribute
their work to a new media environment. Contributions could either be
tied in with news stories or run independently as a separate section.
Do you have artistic talent and biting satire? Would you like your work
to be seen by thousands of students each week? No previous knowledge
of digital imaging required. In return for all your efforts we do not
offer you money, but we offer you the chance to utilise your skills
in a fast-paced environment and for you to build up visibility for your
work. Although you can submit work on paper, we can also teach you the
technical skills to transfer this to the web.
