Well, well, well – not a bad night all round for our little university with both of Durham’s media offerings winning their respective categories. Much respect to the four boys who founded durham21 only one year ago – to start with just a dreamy-eyed fantasy and progressing to being the best student media website in such a short space of time is frankly quite an amazing achievement!

I must congratulate all those who have contributed to the site, from the high profile columnists to those who do not always get their 15 minutes of fame, such as the tech boys, without whom this site could not run. I hope that you all found it as worthwhile as the “big four” did and we will endeavour to continue making a huge impact from our unique position of being Durham’s only editorially independent student news source.

Which brings me to Palatinate, our worthy rival, with who we engage in light hearted banter from time to time, but I am the first to say that they do an excellent job and are obviously a top class outfit, run by dedicated and talented individuals. So congratulations on being the best student newspaper!

And Tom, Leon, Jonty and Matt – as Tom would say “Big Up!”

Former Palatinate news editor: A truly successful night in more ways than one- thanks for the praise guys; such collaboration and cooperation between the two complimentary mediums should ensure that Durham’s excellence in student journalism will continue to flourish. Congratulations to all parties.
